Traditional Braces

Delivering high-quality care in our state-of-the-art facility.

Braces have also come a long way since they were first introduced, becoming more comfortable than ever before and including the added ability to customize colors. Traditional braces can be a great way for you or your teen to express their creative side.

Metal braces, also known as traditional braces, are composed of metal brackets and wires. Although, modern brackets are smaller and less noticeable than ever before. Plus, new heat-activated archwires use your body heat to help teeth move more quickly and less painfully than in the past.

Braces work by applying continuous pressure to gradually shift teeth into proper alignment. They are periodically tightened throughout treatment to maintain consistent pressure and attain desired results.

Braces can help if you suffer from common issues such as misaligned teeth, spacing between teeth, overcrowding, overbite, underbite, and more.

During an initial free consultation, Dr. Eschelman will evaluate your needs and determine a treatment option that is best for you. It may be determined that additional dental work needs to be completed before braces can be applied. The Woodlands Smiles is the one stop shop for all your orthodontic needs.

Traditional braces offer more then just straighter teeth. Misaligned or overcrowded teeth can lead to further complications such as problems with speech, digestion, and overall health. Orthodontic treatment provides the benefits of improved appearance, confidence, and chewing functionality.

Many patients ask, “Do braces hurt?” While there may be some slight discomfort initially following braces being applied or adjusted, this only means that treatment is working and the tenderness will subside within 24 hours.

Braces may require you to alter your diet to avoid complications or damages such as broken brackets or wires. You will want to eat softer foods such as rice, pasta, steamed vegetables, and fruit. Desserts such as ice cream or yogurt are also recommended, as the cold can provide temporary relief for irritation. It is important to avoid hard and sticky foods that can potentially damage brackets and get stuck in wires. You should stay away from hard crunchy foods such as apples or pretzels, chewy foods such as bagels or rolls, and sticky foods such as caramel or gum.

Receiving orthodontic treatment such as braces can provide life-lasting results! Dr. Eschelman will be there every step of the way to answer any questions or concerns.
